How does the electricity price work in Denmark?
Electricity in Denmark is bought and sold on the Nord Pool power exchange. The price is set by supply and demand – just like on a real exchange. The standard is hourly settlement, but you can also choose 15-minute settlement for greater precision.
Most electricity companies buy power and resell it to you — adding a markup on top of the spot price. We do it differently. At enkel energi we trade power directly on the market and pass it on to you at the pure market price — with no markup. And because we actively use the flexibility in your charging in the trade, we can give the benefit straight back to you as a charging discount and Smart Charge.
What is your electricity price made of?
When you use electricity, the price consists of four parts:
The spot price
The price electricity is traded at on the power exchange
Tariffs to your grid company
Depends on where you live
Electricity tax
The government tax
VAT
25% of the total price
At enkel: You pay the spot price 1:1 — we add no markup. And with the charging discount and Smart Charge we actually subtract. Tariffs, tax and VAT are the same regardless of electricity company and depend on your grid company.
DK1 and DK2 – why price zones?
Denmark is divided into:
DK1 (West)
Jutland and Funen
DK2 (East)
Zealand, Lolland-Falster and Bornholm
The zones can have different prices because the amount of wind, solar, cable connections and import/export varies.
