ELBIIL.dk test: enkel energi came out lowest on price of 14 charging solutions

An independent price comparison of 14 providers placed enkel energi lowest on the total cost of electricity and charger service, based on the test's assumptions.

We are proud — and a little surprised

It is with great pride that we can share the news: in ELBIIL.dk's independent test of charging solutions on the Danish market, enkel energi came out lowest on price.

When one of the younger and smaller players in the market is compared with some of Denmark's biggest electricity companies — and comes out lowest on price — it tells us our business model works. Note that the result reflects the test's assumptions and the prices at the time of testing.

What does the ELBIIL.dk test show?

ELBIIL.dk carried out a thorough comparison of 14 different providers of electricity and service agreements for chargers. The test looks at the total costs for a typical annual consumption of 8,000 kWh and includes:

• Monthly subscription costs
• Spot price markups and trading costs
• Payment fees
• All other costs that vary between providers

With a monthly subscription of just 28 DKK and no markup on the spot price, enkel energi came out lowest on price in the test.

A price difference that matters

The test shows that monthly subscription prices range from 27 DKK all the way up to 164 DKK — a difference of more than 1,600 DKK per year on the subscription alone. Add spot price markups, which at some providers run up to 19 øre/kWh, and the gap grows even bigger.

For an average EV owner driving 15,000 km a year and using around 3,000 kWh for charging, the choice of provider can mean a difference of several thousand kroner annually.

How can we keep the price this low?

We get that question a lot. The answer is actually quite simple — hence our name.

We rethought the business model

Traditional electricity companies make money by adding a markup to the electricity price. The more you use, the more they earn. At enkel energi we turned that model upside down.

We trade the electricity ourselves, and our earnings come from the electricity market instead of from you as a customer. That means we:

• Have no financial incentive to keep prices high
• Can give you 100% exchange-based electricity prices with no markup
• Earn the most when we trade smartly in the market

No hidden costs

Transparency is a core value for us. Our prices are crystal clear:

• 28 DKK/mo. for enkel strøm (or 18 DKK/mo. for enkel kvartal)
• 0 øre/kWh markup on the spot price
• 0 DKK in payment fees
• 0 DKK/mo. service agreement for your charger, included with an electricity plan
• 0 DKK/mo. enkel Smart Charge, included with an electricity plan and a compatible charger

That's it. No surprises on the bill.

Price guarantee on charging

Our system:

• Gives you a price guarantee: you are billed at the price of the cheapest hours in your charging window

• Is estimated to save typically 15–30% compared with unplanned overnight charging, based on historical spot prices. Your result depends on your consumption and on the car and charger following the app's schedule

For an average EV owner it means an annual saving of more than 2,500 DKK — money automatically deducted from your bill.

Good to know: The electricity tax is being phased out from 1 January 2026. That means you avoid paying the tax from the start — so there is also nothing to refund. This applies at all providers and is a political decision that makes driving an EV even cheaper.
